Couples Counselling

At Peninsula Wellness & Therapy, we understand that couples relationships can be both deeply fulfilling and, at times, incredibly challenging. Many partners find themselves stuck in patterns of miscommunication, emotional disconnection, or ongoing conflict that feels difficult to shift on their own. You don’t have to navigate these challenges alone.


Our couples therapy approach is grounded in evidence-based frameworks, including Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and the Gottman Method Couples Therapy, which provide structured, research-backed ways of understanding relationships, strengthening emotional connection, and improving communication. These approaches help us support couples to move beyond surface-level conflict and into deeper patterns of understanding and repair.


We support couples experiencing:

  • Frequent arguments or recurring conflict cycles 
  • Emotional distance, disconnection, or feeling “stuck” 
  • Breakdowns in communication or misunderstanding 
  • Repairing trust after ruptures or betrayal 
  • Stress related to life transitions such as parenting, work, or health changes 
  • Challenges with intimacy, closeness, or emotional responsiveness 
  • A desire to strengthen and deepen an already solid relationship


We tailor our approach to your relationship, your goals, and your pace. Whether you are in crisis or simply wanting to reconnect and strengthen your bond, therapy offers a supportive space to slow things down, understand each other more deeply, and rebuild connection.


Our focus is not on blame - it is on helping you both feel heard, understood, and emotionally connected in a way that feels safe and sustainable.


Important Note:  We take domestic and family violence very seriously. Therapy is not always appropriate where there is current violence, coercive control, or significant safety concerns. If any violence is disclosed - past or present - we will contact you to discuss this and assess whether couples or family therapy is suitable. In cases of historical violence, we may recommend individual sessions first to assess safety and risk before considering any joint work. Please note that therapists have mandatory reporting obligations where required by law, particularly if there is risk of harm to children or serious ongoing danger. Your safety, and the safety of all involved, is always our priority.
