Sometimes the problem isn't that you don't know what to do. It's that you've been trying to cope with too much, on your own, for too long.
Jonathan is a registered Health Psychologist with more than 20 years of experience helping adolescents and adults (16+) navigate trauma, burnout, anxiety, prolonged stress, health and illness, and significant periods of change. He has a particular interest in working with people who feel overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected from themselves, or caught in patterns they understand intellectually but can't seem to change.
Jonathan believes that therapy is about more than simply managing symptoms. It is an opportunity to slow things down, make sense of what has happened, understand the patterns that have developed along the way, and begin making different choices about how you want to live.
His approach is warm, grounded and collaborative. Drawing on his background in Health Psychology, trauma-informed practice and a range of evidence-based therapies, Jonathan considers the whole person - including the relationship between psychological wellbeing, physical health, relationships, work, identity and the demands of everyday life. He works alongside clients to develop greater self-understanding, psychological flexibility and practical ways of responding to life's challenges.
With experience spanning public health, community mental health, private practice and almost nine years as a commissioned officer in the Australian Defence Force, Jonathan brings a particular understanding of trauma, resilience, high-pressure environments and the cumulative effects of prolonged stress. He has worked with people from a wide range of backgrounds and understands that even when someone appears to be coping on the outside, the internal experience can be very different.
Jonathan draws from Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness and Schema Therapy, integrating these approaches according to the individual rather than expecting clients to fit a particular therapeutic model.
His work is particularly suited to people who are looking for more than a set of coping strategies — people who want to understand themselves more deeply, break longstanding patterns and move towards a life that feels more balanced, connected and meaningful.
Jonathan holds a Doctor of Psychology (Health) from Deakin University, is a Fellow of the College of Health Psychologists (FCHP) and a Member of the Australian Psychological Society (MAPS). He is also an AHPRA-approved psychology supervisor.
Outside of psychology, Jonathan enjoys spending time with his family and making the most of life on the Mornington Peninsula.
