At Peninsula Wellness and Therapy, we specialize in providing compassionate support for children aged 7 and above who are facing mental health challenges. We understand that childhood can be a time of immense growth and change, but it can also bring its share of difficulties. Our approach focuses on equipping children with the tools and strategies they need to navigate these challenges with resilience and confidence.
One key aspect of our approach is helping children develop greater emotional awareness and regulation. Through engaging activities and age-appropriate exercises, we teach children how to identify and express their feelings in healthy ways. By fostering a safe and supportive environment, we empower children to build emotional resilience and cope effectively with stressors they may encounter.
We also emphasize the importance of building strong social and interpersonal skills. For children, developing positive relationships with peers and adults is crucial for their overall well-being. Through interactive games and role-playing activities, we help children enhance their communication skills, empathy, and problem-solving abilities, enabling them to build meaningful connections with others.
In addition, we recognize the importance of helping children cultivate a sense of purpose and direction in their lives. By exploring their interests, values, and strengths, we guide children in setting achievable goals and taking steps towards realizing their dreams. Through this process, children develop a sense of agency and confidence in their ability to shape their own futures.
Overall, our goal is to provide children with the support and guidance they need to thrive emotionally, socially, and academically. By empowering them with practical skills and fostering a sense of self-efficacy, we help children build a strong foundation for lifelong mental health and well-being. If your child is struggling with mental health issues, we're here to help them discover their inner strengths and unlock their full potential.
The first therapy session will involve speaking to both the child and parent together to gather an understanding of the situation, clarify barriers to wellbeing, discuss expectations of therapy and establish achievable outcomes.
Subsequent sessions generally include the therapist and child only. We encourage parents to join in at the end of each session to review progress and discuss any issues together.
Recommendations of ways in which you can support your child will be given throughout this process and ongoing reviews will be conducted to ensure expectations are being met and progress is being made.
